Got an Idea? Email Me!

Periodically, Todd Friel and others forward me emails in which some of you have given great ideas of places to go fishing. If you have any ideas that you would like to send directly to me, submit your fishing segment ideas here email@fishwithtrish.com.

Your email doesn't have to be anything lengthy or long. Just a quick email will do. Something to the effect of, "Trish, I think you should go to a military base for The Way of the Master Radio." Thanks!

Getting lost was well worth it!

Brian was on the second segment of The Way of the Master Radio just a couple weeks ago on Jan 17th. This was the day that I took two wrong turns and wound up at The Waffle House. Of course, I know now that this was not a "wrong" turn. Getting lost that day twice, was sure worth it!

If you were listening, you remember me mentioning that Brian was reading this book when I walked up to him. He gladly wanted to be on the radio program and said I could have a seat. We talked quite a bit before and after he got off the air--I think he only had a couple of bites of his meal. It was cold by the time he was done. But he didn't seem to mind.

He openly spoke of being somewhat involved in the occult and his wife, April, was practicing wicca, heavily, for 10 years or so. He told me right as I was about to leave, "My wife would really like to be on the program--she is very opinionated--I think she would have a lot to say." "Perfect!" I responded. "Email me and I will come to her and we will put her on the air."
So, Brian, if you are reading this please shoot me an email, like you said you would, and I will take you up on the offer to put your wife (April) on the program. Here is the email where you can reach me, to set something up email@fishwithtrish.com .
Thank you Brian, again, for your willingness to be on the radio. And if I never talk with you again, please consider the things that were said to you that day.

Trish, The Way of the Master Radio and Jim McGhee (Catholic Priest)

This is Jim McGhee before he was on the air for The Way of the Master Radio last Thursday. He is a priest at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic church, the largest Catholic parish in Fort Worth.
This is Jim after he got off of the program (see right photo).

He was not very happy after he got off the phone with Ray Comfort and Todd Friel.

Jim's face was bright red, my phone was filled with sweat, and he didn't like the fact that Ray and Todd wanted to talk about justification by faith alone. He told me that Martin Luther was a rebel and that he (Luther) should have stayed with the Catholic (Mother) church. To Jim, Protestants were not part of the "true" church. This didn't surprise me one bit. I knew what I was getting into.

We went back and forth, for a long time disagreeing on many things. To say the least, we came to the conclusion to agree to disagree on many doctrinal issues. What else could we do!? I wasn't going to compromise on clear doctrinal issues. One point was very clear, the Bible was not Jim's final authority and tradition is huge in the Catholic church.

By the end of the day, he didn't look to unhappy and surprisingly he invited me back. (see photo, right)

I might make a trip their this week with a big basket of fruit as a way of thanking him for being on the program. I think I'll talk with him some more and take my husband with me :-)

The benefit of being in fellowship

Around this time of year I realize how much I miss the five fruit trees I use to have in my back yard in California. They bore fruit all year long, at least it seemed that way. I made baskets for friends and gave away huge bags of lemons, oranges, grapefruits, and tangerines. Friends and family delighted in this and so did I after I made a nice big glass of fresh squeezed orange juice.

When the winter rolled around and I felt a sore throat coming on, my dear husband would go to the back yard and pick several of each fruit and make me a concentrated juice drink. The next day, there was no sign of sickness at all.

Now when I crave juice, I have to go to the store--and it is expensive to top it off. So I plotted to plant some fruit trees in the back yard. But then I realized that no one around here has trees of this sort--there must be a reason, duh! "I'll have to plant something else that will survive." I thought.

A friend told me that the best thing to do when planting a tree, is to buy several. And them plant them close to each other. Trees flourish and produce fruit much better when they are near other trees. This is because they help to fertilize each other. It is the same with us as Christians. Being surrounded by other believers is healthy for us. We can thrive, flourish, grow stronger, bear good fruit, and much more when we are planted in a solid church around others who love the Lord. That is why the bible says in Hebrews 10:24-25a "And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some..."

Her Number One Fear In Life....

This is Christina from a couple weeks ago when I went to Texas Christian University. She was on The Way of the Master Radio and it went well! She told me that her number one fear, in life, was failing. She didn't want to be a failure, nor did she want to fail anyone.
But after Ray Comfort took her through the 10 Commandments she got of the phone and told me, "I have been afraid to fail in life and Ray told me that I failed the One that mattered most!" I think she saw clearly that she had failed God and violated his standards of righteousness. It was as if a large light went on in her head. Thank God for the Savior and that their is hope for Christina. She truly heard the Gospel that day.

I asked her, "When was the last time you read the bible. " "I have not picked it up in over TWO years." She bashfully admitted. I followed up with her about the brevity of life--and how to get right with God immediately.

Have You Tolerated Blasphemy Lately? Watch this Hollywood and God Video

This video clearly outlines how Hollywood hates Christianity...and to top it off Christians pay them to do it!
Did you know that there was a time when the entertainment industry was bound by a code that forbade them from using any blasphemy in a movie? The "Hays Code" stated:
Pointed profanity--this includes thewords "God," "Lord," "Jesus," "Christ" (unless used reverently), "Hell," "S.O.B.," "damn," or every other profane or vulgar expression, however used--is forbidden.
Wow--how times have changed!
Hollywood could care less about the code.
For example, in a new movie called "Cloverfield" (PG-13) produced by J.J. Abrams, uses 72 instances of G/OMG. And Jesus Christ is blasphemed six times in the movie.
So what's the answer? With more than 170 million professing Christians in America, we have a powerful sling that can hit Hollywood between the eyes and leave a deep impression on its money-making mind. They are causing an entire generation to hate Christianity, and to use the name of Jesus Christ to express disgust.
Here is what you can do:
1. Watch the video above, then forward to everyone on your list. 2. Make a personal commitment from this point forward, to not watch movies that blaspheme God. If it happens in the theater, walk out. If it happens at home, change the channel.
3. Go to www.HollywoodandGod.com every week to see a list of movies that contain blasphemy.
4. Then Send Hollywood a personal message. Email them and say “Your movie contains blasphemy. Don’t look for my money at the box office.”

Interesting Thread...

To question said... "What gives you the right to say they are going to hell and this way of life in the compound is Demonic? Do you have undisputable proof your religion is the absolute way? Have you read Buddhist Texts? This believe and viewpoint is the source of todays problems and tension in the Middle east. Everyone thinks their way is the right way and all others are condemned. By the way, I am a son of a Jew, raised Christian, married a Muslim, and am converting to Buddhism. Crazy, but True. "

First, thank you for posting a comment. My ultimate reference point is the Bible. It says in John 14: 6 (the words of Jesus) "I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but by me." I don't think it can get any more clear than that.

My views are based on the Bible alone (Sola Scriptura). So if you have an issue with the words of Jesus than the burden of proof is on you to provide undisputable evidence that the bible is in error and that Jesus was wrong when he said that he was the only way. If you would like to submit that information and that undisputable proof, I'd be more than willing to read what you can present. Until then, you are making huge claims, so it would be great to see them backed up with some evidence.

While you're acquiring that proof, please answer this question for me, "According to your buddhist beliefs, how do you believe a just God will punish the sin of each person, explain how a person will be forgiven for violating the 10 commandments? Think about it. Have you kept all 10?

I picked up this book and minutes later I was halfway through it!

My husband and I went to dinner at a friend's house (Jay and Christina) the other night. The enchilada's were great and so was the cheesecake.

After dinner, we got to talking about how Randy Alcorn has a good book out, called, Money, Possessions and Eternity. Then, with in minutes, Christina handed me this little book (see left). "This is by Randy Alcorn too." She said. "And John MacArthur gave this out at the Master's Seminary--to the students...it must be really important." She explained. "Do you mind if I borrow it?" I inquired. "Sure." She happily handed it to me.

Last night, I picked up the book and minutes later I was halfway through it! It is a powerful reminder as to why we should remain sexually pure. This book deals with raising children to embrace sexual purity by providing an example of purity in the home, protecting purity in dating (at any age), and maintaining purity in marriage. In 93 pages, the author is biblical, practical, and concise. So whether you are single, married, or are raising young adults who will soon be married, this book is a must read. I think I am going to finish the other half tonight!

Could Robby Be Wrong?

I was on my way to a community college with a car full of people and I got off on the wrong freeway, twice!

Keith (video/father in law), Mary (photographer/cousin through marriage), Miriam (mother in law) and Elijah (Mary's son) were in my car and cracking up. "You're never going to make it to the community college now for the radio segment...we better just go somewhere else!" They exclaimed.

We never seem to get lost when Keith is in the drivers seat, on Thursday's (I thought to myself) I think I will let him drive next time.... :-)

Minutes later, we found ourselves at the Waffle House for last Thursday's broadcast on The Way of the Master Radio. The first segment was with Robert (Robby). He said he didn't have any thoughts about spiritual things. "Perfect...you will be perfect!" I explained to him. While he was on the radio he told Ray Comfort that he was an atheist. So he did have some thoughts after all.

After the show, he took a big bite of his breakfast, then looked at me and admitted, "I could possibly be wrong...I don't know everything."

After the segment I held up one of The Way of the Master DVD's, "If I gave you two episodes would you watch them?" "Sure." He replied. So, I explained. "Robby it wasn't by chance that I got lost two times today...I was headed to a different location...and the Waffle House was the furthest thing from my mind...but you were suppose to hear this message." He smiled and so did his friend, Troy. Then I added, "Please consider the things that you heard today."

Fish with Trish - The Terrors of Thy Holy Law

An amazing hymn sung by Trish, Nicole and Kelley (right before Kenny's baptism). Here are the very moving words:

With melting heart and weeping
eyes,
My guilty soul for mercy cries;
What shall I do, or whither flee,
To rid the vengeance due of me?
To rid the vengeance due of me?

Till late I saw no danger nigh,
I lived at ease nor feared to die;
Wrapped up in self-conceit and pride,
“I shall have peace at last,” I cried.
“I shall have peace at last,” I cried.

But when great God thy light divine,
Had shone on this dark soul of mine,
Then I beheld with trembling awe,
The terrors of Thy holy law.
The terrors of Thy holy law.

Should vengeance still my soul pursue,
Death and destruction are my due;
Yet mercy can my guilt forgive,
And bid this dying sinner live.
And bid this dying sinner live.

Does not Thy sacred word proclaim,
Salvation free in Jesus’ name?
To him I look and humbly cry,
“Lord, save a wretch condemned to die!”
“Lord, save this wretch condemned to die!”

How to have your own homeschool evangelism workshop...

This email came into Fish with Trish:

"I saw in your newsletter that you do evangelism training workshops for homeschoolers. How cool! We have a large number of homeschooled kids in our church and my wife homeschools our two oldest kids (8 and 6)...We do have coop events from time to time for the kids, and they usually attract a number of kids...Anyhow, since we live in New Hampshire, I'm thinking it's probably a tad far for you to come and do a workshop, so I was wondering if you wouldn't mind letting me know what you do in your workshops to adapt WOTM for the little guppies, because maybe I could do the workshop!? Any ideas or help would be super. I'd love to see our little ones develop a passion for the lost."

Here is my response:

"As far as what I have done with the evangelism curriculum, here it goes...I tailor it differently for every age (use examples and analogies that are age appropriate) but the content is the same. In other words, I use Hells Best Kept Secret (the most important parts from the message and it usually take me about 20 min.) True and False Conversion (the most important parts from this message about 20 min.) and then I give a 15 minute presentation of how to use tracts (What to do and what not to do)...The entire teaching is usually under an hour but if the students are really in tune with everything (which usually they always are) I will take more time. :-) You can also include a role play! Students really get into this. Then we hit the streets for about an hour."

If you have never taken the time to listen to these two free messages Hells Best Kept Secret and True and False Conversion please do so. They have forever impacted my life.

Fish with Trish preparing to go to Texas Christian Univ

This is what it is like right before we hit the streets for The Way of the Master Radio. Thank you to everyone who prays for these segments. It really means alot!

The First Rancher on The Way of the Master Radio

Yes...our rancher friend, Dave, turned out to believe that salvation comes by baptism. He was a stickler on this point.

"Is water baptism essential to salvation?"

While we should preach that all men are commanded to repent and be baptized (Acts 2:38), adding any other requirement to salvation by grace becomes "works" in disguise. Even though numerous Scriptures speak of the importance of water baptism, adding anything to the work of the cross demeans the sacrifice of the Savior. It implies that His finished work wasn’t enough. But the Bible makes clear that we are saved by grace, and grace alone (Ephesians 2:8,9). This was taken from the Evidence Bible Bridge Logos Publishers. Click here to read the rest.

Here are two other good links on baptism: http://www.gty.org/Resources/issues/535

A Family Friend Impacted by the Gospel...

I had David, a family friend, on The Way of the Master Radio last week.

After the show he said, "I never knew that lust was like adultery...as they were talking to me about it--all I could think of was--that I do that all the time!"

I reiterated to David that he could not work his way to heaven but that he needed to trust in Christ alone for his salvation. He nodded as if to understand. I encouraged him to get right with the Lord and not to let another day go by with out doing so. He listened and agreed.

As you can see, from the photos, he was delighted to take the curved illusion gospel tracts.

3 Night Extravaganza

A group of us started a 3 Night Extravaganza of Christmas Carol Evangelism which was electric and quite cold. We began the Saturday before Christmas and it was about 25 degrees outside. We bundled up. The second night was not as chilly, so I thought, but my nose and entire body had probably lost it's feeling from the night before. :-)

Each night was such a blessing. We knocked on doors, handed out cookies and tracts and sang through the streets. My favorite part was when we broke tradition, and sang "Amazing Grace" (something I had never sang while carolling). The song echoed into the clear night sky. I practically wanted to cry--thinking about how God saved a wretch like me.

People, one by one, turned on their porch lights, some watched as they peeked through their windows while waving, others came out and offered hot coco (I should have grabbed some).

I can't wait until Resurrection Day otherwise known as "Easter." I think we will start a new tradition and call it Resurrection Hymns. We will knock on doors, pass out cookies and tracts and sing hymns about the Lord. Why don't you try it this March? Grab a few friends to go with you.

Everyday is a new day!

I am resolved with the Lord's help to do the following things in 2008 (not in any particular order):

  • Do everything to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God)
  • Serve my husband and be the best homemaker I can be (Proverbs 14:1 The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish pulls it down with her hands.)
Read through the entire Bible at least once (Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.)
  • Preach the Gospel more than any other year (Mark 8:36-38 For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.") Speak things which edify and are true (Psalm 141:3 Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!)
  • Meditate on and memorize the bible (Psalm 119:11 Your word I have hidden in my heart that I may not sin against You.)
  • Do everything with diligence and be a faithful employee (Proverbs 22:29 Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men.)
  • Surround myself with godly brethren and wise counsel (Proverbs 18:1 A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; He rages against all wise judgment.)

There is no doubt that most of us wait until today to make resolutions, start new diets, exercise more, etc. But a few weeks or months, at best, go by and we find ourselves defeated. So whatever you desire to do this year, keep in mind (when you fail or are discouraged) that, for the Christian, the Lord’s mercies are new every morning and He is full of compassion (Lam 3: 22-23). We are called to abide in Him.

So everyday is a new day! We don't have to wait for the New Year to roll around to be resolved to turn over a new leaf. We can wake up each morning with a fresh start. Did you know that it is morning somewhere on the plant at all times? We can have a fresh start morning by morning or better yet moment by moment. I am reminded of that hymn, "Great is Thy Faithfulness" written in the early 1900's by William M. Runyan "morning by morning new mercies I find". Because the Lord is rich in mercy, He will enable us to serve Him every new day and moment. Happy New Year!
