Hour 1 with an Associate Professor of English

These photos are of Christine Hubbard, Associate Professor of English at Tarrant Community College from last Thursday's fishing segment on The Way of the Master Radio. She said that she has been "born again" but then on and off the program she told Ray Comfort, Todd Friel and myself similar things. She doesn't "believe certain parts of the Bible" nor in a "literal Hell." Yikes! To say the least, we had to agree to disagree.

You can listen to the full segment HERE it starts at the 40 minute mark.

Very Convicting!

"Hello Mrs. Ramos, I have been reading your blog here as well as keeping up with you through Mr. Ray Comfort's site. I have to say, your testimony and work has really encouraged me towards witnessing to others. I am mostly bed bound because of a disease I have, but I'm planning out ways to witness to relatives through the mail. Could you please tell me what is the best tract that you know of for this type of situation? Thank you and keep shining your light!! God bless!Love in Christ, Vanessa"

I am so blessed that you are reading my blog. Thanks for adding a link to it as well! I think the "Why Christianity?" booklet would be great to send to your family. It really has taken off for Living Waters. They sold 100,000 within the first three months of its publication, and even made it into an episode of their Third Season. Look what one reviewer said: "This is the most comprehensive and best tract I've ever seen . . . where it really shines is in close relationships, such as neighbors or family-members, because it starts out very inoffensive and ramps into the offense of the cross." If you want to purchase it you can go HERE.

Vanessa Lynn by the way, I want to let you know that I am praying that the Lord will be magnified through your disease. May He draw you close to Himself and comfort you in only the ways that He can. I am blessed to hear that you are planning ways to witness to those that you love even though you are mostly bed bound...very convicting to those of us that are well! Keep up the great work sister. I pray that the Lord will bless you in your endeavor to serve Him.

Were Resurrection Hymns a flop?

Hymns about the Lord are never a "flop" they're glorious! But, no, we never ended up singing hymns through the streets like I had planned. So much for my bright idea. :-)
Instead, a couple of us went door to door before Easter and handed out chocolates and Gospel tracts. We had a great time! Although, we thought it strange that several families ran inside after taking one glimpse of us--guess they thought we were Jehovah's witnesses or something.

Special Thanks to the Jesuroga Family for being great sports!

Christ the Lord Is Risen Today!

1. Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
Earth and heaven in chorus say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia!

2. Love's redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids him rise, Alleluia!
Christ has opened paradise, Alleluia!

3. Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once he died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where's thy victory, boasting grave? Alleluia!

4. Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like him, like him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!

5. Hail the Lord of earth and heaven, Alleluia!
Praise to thee by both be given, Alleluia!
Thee we greet triumphant now, Alleluia!
Hail the Resurrection, thou, Alleluia!

6. King of glory, soul of bliss, Alleluia!
Everlasting life is this, Alleluia!
Thee to know, thy power to prove, Alleluia!
Thus to sing, and thus to love, Alleluia!

Flash Back Friday

On July of 2006 I had the privilege to witness to Brian and Tammy. It was one of the very first memorable witnessing encounters for me on The Way of the Master Radio. This young couple pulled up to the courthouse in Bellflower, CA with loud music blasting out of an old white Ford that looked like it was ready for a paint job. Brian had a slicked back mo hawk and Tammy was chewing her bubble gum boldly as she got out of the passenger seat. I thought they would be perfect for the program. And it just so happened that they arrived on the wrong day for their court date so they had all the time in the world to talk with me. And they were in no hurry. Of course we know this "wrong date" wasn't by chance! They both agreed to be on the air and if I recall correctly, this encounter was the first time we ever attempted to witness to two people at one time on The Way of the Master Radio. You can listen to the full segment here July 10, 2006 - Hour 2 it starts at the 20 minute mark.

"Hurry! Just Get Rid Of It!"

We were in the airport headed home after an eventful weekend in Fort Myers, Florida for Transformed. Ray Comfort decides to break away from the team for a minute as we're walking down to the security check point. He digs in his luggage, pulls out a grip of Million Dollar Bill Tracts and quickly walks over to three ladies working at the American Airlines Desk. No one was in line at the time.

He hands them each a tract. I was watching from a distance, smiling. I couldn't hear what he was saying but I could only imagine it was something to the effect of, "Did you get one of these?" (I really enjoy traveling with Ray and our team, none of us ever have to bring as many tracts as we usually would. When Ray's with us he is a tract machine!). After they each took a tract, Ray quickly walked away. Then, I went up to the same ladies, to check in, just minutes after Ray handed them the tracts.

One particular lady was glued to the Million Dollar Bill as the other attendant helped me. I couldn't help to notice how fast the other lady was reading the tract. Each line she read out loud and gasped after every question. I just stood there, in shock at her response, took it all in, and watched her eyes get wide as she read, "Have you ever told a lie, stolen anything, or used God's name in vain?" Then she said, "Oh my G-D!" She put one hand over her heart and continued. "Have you looked with lust? Will you be guilty on Judgment Day?" And she blasphemed again, "Oh my G-D!" She then turned to the other lady at the counter that was assisting me and said one last time "Oh my G-D...according to this I am going to Hell!" "Hurry! Just Get Rid Of It!" Exclaimed the worker, at the counter, standing right next to her.

The law, once again, was having it's perfect work.

Transformed-Fort Myers, Florida

Fort Myers, Florida-Transformed March 15, 2008 Ray, Kirk, Todd, and E.Z. as usual, make talking to almost 3,000 people look so easy. I pray and trust that many souls were impacted for eternity at this past weekends Transformed Conference. Thank you to all those who served in helping to make this conference a success. Your labor of love, in the Lord, is not in vain.

Get a look at the size of this Bible! Can you guess who it belongs to?

You thought my bible was laughable--you should hear the laughter when this bible is brought to a pulpit --the crowd roars. If the books in the background gave it away--you guessed right. It belongs to Ray Comfort. I got a snap shot of his bible at the Transformed Conference in Florida this past weekend.

Behind the Scenes with Trish and Father Jim McGhee

Only Christian Stations

Mike, a friend of mine, is a taxi cab driver. What a hard job. I saw Mike at church the other day so I greeted him and he shared with me, "Trish, my friend is a Christian and drives taxis too and listens only to Christian stations while driving--like me." "Really--that's great Mike!" I responded.

So he continued, "Yeah, and he always picks up this regular individual who tells him to change the channel--every time. So he does change it, but it just so happens that every dial is programmed to a Christian station. I bet it must drive this particular individual crazy."

Don't Laugh At My Bible

Last Sunday, while in Sunday school, something funny happened to me and I thought I would share it with you. We were discussing the inspiration of Scripture.

Then a friend, Teri, made a comment to the class, "Isn't it amazing how you can read one verse over and over but then it really stands out right when you need it."

I added, "Yeah, like this verse hit me, 2 Tim 3:15. The part that says, "wise for salvation"--I have had it underlined in my bible for years but it really hit me today--"wise for salvation"--Wow."

Then Teri's husband (Dennis) leans over and whispers to me while looking at my bible, "Trish, it looks like you have every verse underlined." We laughed! (Note: the photos are of my actual bible)

How did it all start?

Recently I have received emails wondering how I overcame my fear to evangelize plus how I got involved with The Way of the Master. I thought I would share a portion with you too:

When I got saved, I was immediately caught up into a zeal for God and a passion for His glory. Evangelism was the by product of knowing that many of my friends and family did not know Jesus as Lord and Savior. The inevitable judgment for the lost, in Hell, broke my heart! I began involvement in evangelism with my local church doing outreaches, door to door evangelism, and other forms of reaching the lost all were part of my walk with God at an early age. I was preaching the "God loves you and has a wonderful plan for you life" message. It was not until I was introduced to a street preacher at the Santa Monica Promenade in Los Angeles, California that my views on evangelism were radically altered.

It was under the preaching of Ray Comfort that my style of evangelism was changed forever particularly in the area of the role that the Law (the Ten Commandments) played in evangelism. I soon saw that God actually had specific laws which He had set up as the standard of righteousness and that we had broken specific rules from our Creator. Initially I was skeptical and pretty mad at this short little man with a funny mustache and catchy accent. I thought he was being mean. “How could he tell people they are going to hell?" I thought.

The way in which Ray spoke the Word of God with fire, conviction, and no compromise was shocking to me. I had never seen such a thing on the streets. So I continued to return to the Promenade, every Friday night--for years, actually.

Though at first I saw Ray as a man who was just being hard on people the more that I heard the message and considered the Scripture, the more I realized that what he was preaching was just Gospel truth. Then shortly after that someone gave me a message Hells Best Kept Secret and that changed my life forever. That was almost 10 years ago.

So how have I overcome my fears? Just thinking about the lost going to Hell, wakes me up out of my slumber. Plus, having watched just about every DVD that Ray has available and read every book has really equipped me to share my faith. Also, I have found others that are bold in sharing their faith and teamed up with them to hit the streets.

Here's a great place where you can link up with churches that use The Way of the Master in their Evangelism: My Fishing Hole

So, when I get timid or if I'm fearful which still happens, I think of what Ray has said--it goes something like this, “If you could conquer your fear of man "problem" if someone gave you 100 dollars every time you shared your faith—how come you can’t overcome your fear of man "problem" for the love of God?!”

Good Books and Connections

Some have asked what books I am currently reading. This list is comprised of books I have barely started, some I am halfway through and others I have almost finished. Here it goes:

1. The Bible (going through the Old Testament towards the end of Psalms right now)
2. "Money Possessions and Eternity" by Randy Alcorn (very good)
3. "The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment" by Jeremiah Burroughs (every single line has a nugget)
4. "Open Heart, Open Home" by Karen Mains (this book is about Christian hospitality)
5. "A Hunger for God" by John Piper (convicting)
6. "Springboards for Budding Preachers" by Ray Comfort (excellent source for evangelism--I try to memorize portions from this book to help me in witnessing to people)
7. "Feminine Appeal" by Carolyn Mahaney (a good practical, biblical, and God-centered book for women)
8. "Heaven" by Randy Alcorn
9. A Biography of George Muller
10. A Biography of D.L. Moody
11. "Systematic Theology" by Wayne Grudem
12. "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" by Jonathan Edwards
13. "Life as a Vapor" by John Piper
14. "A Life of Joy" by Katie Hoffman

Here are a few good websites where you can connect with other believers who share their faith:

1. My Fishing Hole (meet individuals and find churches in your area who use The Way of the Master)
2. Adventures in Christianity (meet others who evangelize in your area)
3. Undeserved Grace (this site is geared more toward biblical discussion)

"Horrified"

This portion of text is taken from Ray Comfort's Blog:

A Relative Term "Horrified."

That would be the word one could use to describe the news-anchor’s reaction to cruelty to cattle at slaughterhouses. They were kind enough to warn viewers about the cruelty which they were about to see. The item showed cattle being pushed over by fork lifts, and sick cattle falling to the ground. I’m sure most of us were upset at such cruelty, as we munched on our dinner of roast beef sandwiches or tenderloin steak. "Horrified" is a relative term. We can be horrified that our credit card didn’t go through, or at a hat that Aunt Bertha wore to a wedding. Cruelty to animals is extremely upsetting, and it shows once again the wickedness of the heart of man.

But the word “horrified” should be reserved for the slaughter of human beings. Twenty-two percent of all U.S. pregnancies end in abortion. While that statistic may make it to the news desk, the media never show “disturbing” pictures to the viewer. It's kind of like what happened in Nazi Germany, with the concentration camps. No one really knew what was going on. If we aren’t horrified at abortion, we should be. Check out http://www.abort73.com/

Take the time to check out Ray Comfort's Blog it is worth your time.
