ADL Slams “180” Holocaust Movie as “Perverse”

NEW YORK, Nov. 10, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) yesterday derided as "cynical and perverse" a movie that unequivocally compares the murder of millions of Jews and others in the Holocaust to women having abortions in the United States, calling the film "one of the most offensive and outrageous abuses of the memory of the Holocaust we have seen in years." The movie has gone viral with just under 1.5 million YouTube views in six weeks.

Ray Comfort, the Jewish creator of www.180movie.com said, "ADL's motto is to fight 'anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.' There's no hatred, prejudice or bigotry in '180.' It's an award-winning movie that opens with 14 people (mainly college students) who have no idea of the identity of Adolf Hitler. Clearly the American education system has failed these kids. This is a movie that educates young people about the horror of the Jewish Holocaust."

Late last month, over 180,000 copies were given away at 100 of America's top universities. This month thousands more were given to students outside Beverly Hills, Hollywood and Burbank High Schools. More than 250,000 copies of the DVD were sold within a month of its release. "ADL should be thanking me. Instead they have come out swinging" Comfort said. "My only explanation is that they haven't thought it out before they rushed to judgment. If anyone should stand up for those who have no voice for themselves, it should be the Jews."

"The film is a perverse attempt to make a case against abortion in America through the cynical abuse of the memory of those killed in the Holocaust," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director and a Holocaust survivor. "Not only does the film try to assert a moral equivalency between the Holocaust and abortion, but it also brings Jews and Jewish history into the discussion and then calls on its viewers to repent and accept Jesus as their savior. It is, quite frankly, one of the most offensive and outrageous abuses of the memory of the Holocaust we have seen in years."

Comfort says, "With due respect to Mr. Foxman, he speaks of Christianity as if it were some sort of disease, when he should know that the majority of Christians love and support the nation of Israel. We are not the enemy."

Foxman further said "The creators of the film clearly don't get it... No Christian who understands Jewish suffering should resort to inappropriate comparisons to the Holocaust to send a message that abortion is wrong."

Comfort replied to the accusation with "No one but a Holocaust survivor can really understand the horror of what the Jews suffered. But the analogy stands. Hitler justified their murder by saying that Jews weren't human. Abortion advocates do the same by calling a baby a 'fetus' (as do ADL in their press release). Yet at 6 weeks 6 days a baby has a heartbeat, eyes, a mouth and hands. We show actual footage of this in our movie. Science now tells us that at the moment of conception there is DNA, determining the eye-color, hair-color and the height and personality of the person. Destroy that, and you destroy the person."

The Los Angeles-based film maker added, "Germany lawfully slaughtered six million Jews. America has lawfully slaughtered nearly ten times that amount. Also, every time Hitler killed a Jewish family he lined his pockets by seizing their assents -- their paintings, jewelry, cars, homes, and bank account. He also seized the gold from their teeth and the hair from their heads, and it amounted to billions of dollars, financing a third of his war-machine with the blood of the Jews." Comfort maintained that the American abortion industry does the same. He said, "Every time a doctor rips the arms, the legs and the head off a baby, he makes quick and easy money. If you want your 16-week baby killed in the womb, it will cost you $765 (current pricing). But if your baby is 19 weeks, it jumps to $2,165, amounting to billions in the pockets of abortion providers. American abortion is not about 'choice,' it's about money... just like the Holocaust. The analogy is legitimate."

Looks like the ADL are looking for publicity. Perhaps it is convenient for publicity to forget for the moment that Christians are friends of Israel.

I agree with Ray Comfort, the analogy is valid. Many others agree, and have praised the film.

Perhaps it is convenient to forget that historically, christians have been the centuries-long enemies of the Jewish people?

Look up "blood libel" on the net. See how much "darwinism" is in there. The Jewish Encyclopedia may be a good place to look, too.

Time for some reading:
The Popes Against the Jews: The Vatican's Role in the Rise of Modern Anti-Semitism
by David I. Kertzer

"After Auschwitz: Religion and the Origins of the Death Camps." Bobbs-Merrill, Indianapolis, Ind., 1966

"Theologian Richard Rubenstein wrote that the Nazis "did not invent a new villain...They took over the 2,000-year-old Christian trdition of the Jew as villain...The roots of the death camps must be sought in the mythic structure of Christianity...Myths concerning the demonological role of the Jews have been operative in Christianity for centuries..."

"Theologian Clark Williamson of Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis, said centuries of Christian hostility to Jews "prepared the way for the Holocaust" he said the Nazis "are inconcievable apart from this Christian tradition. Hitler's pogrom, for all its distinctiveness, is the zenith of a long Christian heritage of teaching and practice against Jews".

Fratricide: The Theological Roots of Anti-Semitism

Dagobert Runes' books: "The Jew and the Cross" and "The War Against the Jew" by Philosophical Library, New York.
"Everything Hitler did to the Jews, all the horrible, unspeakable misdeeds, had already been done to the smitten people before by the Christian churches....The isolation of Jews into ghetto camps, the wearing of the yellow spot, the burning of Jewish books, and finally the burning of the people-Hitler learned it all from the church. However, the church burned Jewish women and children alive, while Hitler granted them a quicker death, choking them first with gas."

Then there's the "Christians United for Israel" guy, John Hagee...remember him? The guy who said that God used Hitler to as a "hunter" to basically force the Jews back into the "holy land"?

You know that people like him are only using the Jews to help fulfill their end-times fantasies, right?

As for abortion...please. People who have no problem with the slaughter of babies and pregnant women in the old testament and in modern times through miscarriages have no moral right to complain about abortion.

For those who claim that your god is somehow "justified" in that, just let me point out the moral double-standard you people adhere to.
