You just never know who is behind you...

Living Waters received this email yesterday:

"Today as I pulled up to pay for my order at a local Dairy Queen in Alvarado, Texas, I was informed by their employee that the man in the car ahead of me had paid for my order (without knowing who I was. He left a $1,000,000 bill for me and for her with the verbal message of "God bless you" for each of us! I am a born again believer and big fan of Kirk... (especially "Fire Proof" the movie and the book "The Love Dare). I was more than blessed by this incident as I have been struggling emotionally and financially since my husband left me last August. I have drawn closer to God and have studied and prayed more recently than at any other time (probably). It's so exciting that we serve an awesome God that we can talk to and that can talk to us! It's also exciting to see other Christians listening to God and obeying him while they bless "unknown" others! God bless your ministry and keep up the good work!" -Wanda

Maybe the person got the idea from this Two Minute Evangelism Tip :-)

It’s not what it looks like

When I first was hired at Living Waters, I carpooled with Jaylene - a friend and co-worker – each day to the ministry. We traveled a long distance -from Riverside, CA to Bellflower, CA - about a 42 mile drive. Sometimes it could take us up to 3 hrs just one way.

Back in 2005, Jaylene and I decided to stay a bit late at the ministry to avoid some of the rush hour traffic. As we drive home through a rather high-crime area, we took a few moments to slow down and hand some Million Dollar Bill tracts through the car window to some youths on the side of the road.

Seconds later and after we had pulled away, a police car pulled up behind us and flashed its headlights. I looked over at Jaylene and said, “That's strange...we weren't speeding or anything...I wonder what's wrong.”

We quickly pulled over and waited. All of a sudden we realized that we had approached the young people at night in a gang-infested area (which of course isn't the wisest things for two ladies to do).

“Jaylene, it probably looks like we're dealing drugs or something. For one, it's late at night.” I explained.

“And it doesn't exactly look good when money is passed out of a car in a drug-ridden area." I added.

“And to top that, these guys look like gangsters…” I told her.

“Oh no, you’re right!” Jaylene agreed, putting one hand over her mouth.

When the officer came to Jaylene’s window, I leaned over so that he could see me and said, “It might not be what you’re thinking it looks like, sir! In fact, you’re probably going to think we’re crazy.”

“Those guys need to hear about Jesus and we were giving them gospel tracts!” Jaylene explained to the officer.

Then Jaylene, handed him a Million Dollar Bill tract and showed him the Curved Illusion tracts, he smiled and said, “You’re showing the wrong person. I’m already saved.”

We were taken by surprise. He was a brother in Christ, and he didn’t stop us because of what we were doing, but because our license plate light wasn’t working. Upon leaving, we handed him a stack of tracts and encouraged him to witness.

One of the most memorable parts of my wedding

Emeal (“E.Z.”) Zwayne (Vice President / General Manager of Living Waters) officiated my wedding almost 6 years ago. Emilio and I were beyond honored to have him marry us. I can remember it like it was yesterday. What I'm about to share with you was one of the most memorable moments of the whole night.

Right before the vows, Emilio and I stood off to the side of the stage while E.Z. moved forward and began to preach a mini sermon to all the attendees - there were about 400 guests.

I thought you'd be encouraged by this small snippet that he shared with our family and friends. Here's what they heard:

"The powerful Roman emperor Charlemagne made an unusual request with regard to his burial. He asked to be buried... sitting upright on his throne... with his crown on his head... his scepter in his hand... his royal cape draped around his shoulders and with an open book placed on his lap.

That was in 814 A.D. Nearly 200 years later, Emperor Othello wanted to see if Charlemagne’s burial request had indeed been carried out. He ordered that the tomb be opened. They found the body just as Charlemagne had requested. Only now, nearly two centuries later, the scene was gruesome.

The crown was tilted on the skeletal head. The scepter was tarnished. The mantle was moth-eaten. The body disfigured. But, there, open on his lap was the book Charlemagne had requested - the Bible!!!... and one, bony finger pointed to Matthew 16:26: “What does it profit... to gain the whole world and lose your own soul?” "

Then E.Z. proceeded to share the full gospel message with everyone. It was wonderful, truly wonderful.

If you're getting married anytime soon, what a perfect opportunity you have to incorporate a solid gospel message into your ceremony so that all the hearers can listen to the words of eternal life and possibly get saved. How special would that be!

Feeling down? Why don't you take an hour and do this...

Pick some flowers...

Grab the kids...

Find a local nursing home...

Bring joy to a dark place...

Let them smell the flowers.

Share the Everlasting Gospel...

with those whose heads hang low...

"Pure and undefiled religion in the
sight of our God and Father is this...

....to visit orphans and widows in their distress,
and to keep oneself unstained by the world." James 1:27
I can guarantee you will be blessed by the time you leave...

...and so will they.

Special thanks to my dear friends Damion and Julie
at HisCreations for providing these photos for my blog.
These photos are precious. They remind me of
decades ago when I was little and my dad
took me to see my great grandmother.
Thanks for capturing such wonderful moments.

Even Kids Pass Out Tracts!

Meet Gabye. You might remember her from this post a while back. Well, she is still at it and passing out tracts like crazy all over town. Just the other night after our Friday church service I heard a wonderful message from the Word of God, with a great time of worship and then to top it off Gabye ran up to me with her big smile and said, "Look! I got a new tract purse!" Then she opened it up, as fast as she could, to show me all of her tracts inside, and I just about fell over--isn't she adorable!

8 reasons why you should stop picking and biting your nails

One of the things that convinced me to post this happened just about an hour ago.

Before I finished composing this blog, my good friend Jelena stopped by after a Laker game and we fellowshipped a few minutes. She heard I had rearranged some of my furniture and she wanted to drop in to check out the changes. Upon leaving, I walked her to the door and said "Let me read you something I've been writing tonight for my blog...maybe you'll get a kick out of it...it will only take a minute." After I was done reading the below to Jelena, she held her hands up and her nails were worse than mine! I was shocked. I looked at her in horror and said, "Oh no that's terrible." She told me that she got so nervous while watching the game that she had practically taken off her fingers.

Like Jelena, I bite the skin around my nails as well. I know...too much information, right! Well, I typically don't bite any of my other fingers but my thumbs tend to take a beating - maybe I'm lacking some sort of nutrient or something. But for some reason if I'm working on a project or answering emails, I'll just gnaw away. What a bad habit, huh!

So today is the day that I've had enough biting. I'm finished. I'm giving it up for good...or at least with the help of the Lord I'll give it up for good.

Recently, I passed out a few tracts and as I held up the red and blue curved illusion tracts to the cashier at the Dollar Store, I quickly hid my thumbs so that only my pointer fingers would show. How embarrassing.

So tonight, ladies, I pondered 8 good reasons why we shouldn't bite our fingers - that goes for the men reading this, too - especially while you are watching the Laker finals. :-)

If you have a problem with biting, I'd like you to think long and hard about these 8 reasons to quit and then I challenge you to stop biting your nails for good and don't waste your life on such trivial things.

Now for the 8 reasons....

8. You'll be a good example to the young women around you (Titus 2:3-5).

7. You'll save a good amount of money (perhaps Neosporin® would go out of business if we stopped all our biting)

6. Your fingers won't hurt for days (especially when you use nail polish remover, or cut lemons in the kitchen for a glass of cold ice-water, or eat salty foods)

5. You'll be able to freely pass out curved illusion tracts and not worry about others missing the illusion because they are so caught up with looking at your fingers.

4. You won't get sick as much (aren't kids supposed to be the ones we tell, "Now don't put your fingers in your mouth...you don't want to catch a cold!")

3. You will have more focused time (think of all the time and energy you spend biting your nails. My dad does stunt driving and with his spare time he is a Collision Avoidance Driving Instructor and trains young students at Willlow Springs Raceway how to do to handle their cars in stormy conditions. Then he takes the students to the race track where the rubber meets the road.
A few years back he invited me to come up to the track and for the first time I sat in the cockpit of a race car going about 60+ miles an hour around a turn - now that's enough to make you really chew your nails...I thought I was going to die!
In the classroom setting, he explains to the teens, "Imagine you're talking on the phone and watching television at the same time. Now think with me. Are you really focused on both things? I can guarantee that the individual on the phone is not receiving your undivided attention - the same is true when we talk on the phone and drive...so don't talk and drive!")
I bet the same is true when we work and bite our nails...so don't work and bite. :-)

2. You won't have to hide your fingers anymore - especially if your making food and trying to be hospitable to the guests who have been invited to your home for dinner (besides who wants to eat your lovely meal after you've touched their food with your swollen sored up fingers!)

And now for the number one reason why we shouldn't bite our fingers...

1. It will honor God! (1 Cor 10:31)

In my heart, won't come out my mouth

This email came in on Friday:

"Sorry for the weird subject title, that is the only way I can explain what happens when a opportunity arises to evangelize to someone. My heart is full of Gods love and I want nothing more than to save people from hell, but I just can't find the words.I know what I want to say but my mouth won't let me say it. Any advice?"

Dear Friend,

Thanks for writing!

Great question.

I'd start by simply handing out a tract and let the tract do the talking for you.

And check out these links for helpful information:
http://fishwithtrish.blogspot.com/2008/07/how-have-you-dealt-with-your-fears.html

Dont' forget to take your tracts everywhere you go.

And if you get rejected for handing someone a tract, don't sting the individual. In other words, it's okay if you get rejected remember that your reward is in heaven. Read here for more:
http://fishwithtrish.blogspot.com/2008/07/don.html

Also, take the time to go through this page that's filled with "2 Minute Evangelism Tips", and other helpful information.

Once you watch the videos, check out the challenges towards the bottom of the page. And if you take the challenges shoot me an email, I'd love to hear how it's going.

And if you're really really bored... :-)

Check out this interview I did with Christian Women Online:
http://www.christianwomenonline.net/issue/2009/03/sunny-interviews-trish-ramos-of-way-of-the-master/

It tackles the fear question head on and read some of the comments...I think you'll be encouraged to know that you're not alone!

Blessings to you!

"Shocked at the viscous personal attacks and profanity that filled my in-box"

A portion from an email that came in today:

"I felt like I was being led to witness to atheists who have posted anti-God videos and comments on youtube. I knew it would be tough but I was not prepared for how tough. I posted a very polite comment on an atheist video and was slammed with hate mail. I was shocked at the viscous personal attacks and profanity that filled my in-box. Their very responses are testimony enough that they are miserable without a relationship with their Creator. This experience has taught me that I am not prepared to do battle with atheists and Satan on that level yet. They’ve made a hobby out of trying to disprove the existence of God where I have not majored on trying to prove He exists. I’m back in the bible and studying hard on how to help spread the gospel to these unhappy people. " Chris

Here's a bit of my response to Chris:

"Did you know that Ray Comfort has a blog that is geared towards reaching atheists?
http://www.raycomfortfood.blogspot.com/.

I think you'll get a lot out of it.

I've had a few atheists on my blog:
http://fishwithtrish.blogspot.com/search/label/Atheism

Oh and one more thing...

Have you ever heard of Greg Bahnsen?

He wrote a book called "Always Ready".

This book revolutionized the way I evangelize. Of course I use the law and things but this is another tool. It's called "Presuppositional Apologetics." In fact, Mark Spence the Dean of the Biblical School of Evangelism taught on Presuppositional Apologetics at our last Transformed Conference in South Carolina. He spoke on it in place of Kirk. Mark did a tremendous job!

You can read more about
Presuppositional Apologetics on the link below. It's essentially another way to defend the faith, especially with skeptics, atheists, relativists, etc.

Presuppositional Apologetics basically help you show the unbeliever/atheist that they can't exist with out borrowing from the biblical worldview in order to make sense of their own worldview. Presuppositional Apologetics show you how to leave the unbeliever standing on the very thing they've been rejecting, namely the Word of God. It shows the unbeliever that they can't make sense of life, right or wrong, good or evil with out borrowing from the biblical worldview.

Hope this makes sense. :-)

So, if there is one book I would recommend you read (aside from all the books
Living Waters offers) it's this one, "Always Ready".

A new springboard for budding preachers

This past Saturday night the Sovereign Joy Evanglism Team went to the Southlake Town Square to preach the gospel. It was a great night for most of us.

Shortly after we arrived, an ambulance and fire truck pulled up on the scene and the crowd of individuals that were casually strolling down the sidewalk, with ice creams in hand, immediately scurried to see what the action was about.

That’s when our wonderful evangelism leader,
Dennis Cain, jumped up on the soapbox and used a new movie, that will be released the end of this month, as a springboard for the gospel. Below is a basic account of what Dennis said last night. I thought it was so good that I wanted to provide it for you to use when you hit the streets.

I stood in the front of the crowd and was glued to every word that Dennis said...I think others were as well.
Here's what Dennis said in a nutshell...

“A new movie will be released soon called “
Drag Me To Hell.” The story is of a women who was cursed to be tormented for three days by a demon and then would be dragged to Hell for eternity. The tag line to the movie is “Even nice people go to Hell.”

Well, it's true. Nice people do go to Hell. 150,000 people die every day. You would consider most of these people to be nice and good. Some of the nicest people you've ever met will end up in Hell when they die.

What about you? Do you think you are a good person...good enough to get into Heaven when you die? The Bible says to examine yourself. This exam is a 10 question test known as the Ten Commandments.

How many lies have you told in your life? A person is called a liar who has told as many lies as you have. Have you ever taken anything that does not belong to you? A person that steals is called a thief. Have you ever taken God's name is vain? That is called blasphemy and God will not hold anyone blameless who misuses His name. If you ever had an improper sexual thought toward someone then Jesus says you are an adulterer at heart.

These are just four of the Ten Commandments. How did you do? God does not grade on a “good deeds” curve. Your “good” deeds do not give you any credit towards God favoritism. The test is pass/fail and you must score a perfect hundred to pass His test.

If you honestly examine yourself you know you are guilty of breaking God's laws. And if you are guilty, God, being just, cannot you let you into Heaven. He cannot allow liars, adulterers, thieves, and blasphemers in to Heaven and remain holy and just.

If a person wronged you and a judge let the person who wronged you off free without any penalty, you will cry foul and state that the judge was crooked. God's standard of justice is much more strict and he will see that justice is done for those who break His laws.

The Bible says that all liars will have their part in the Lake of Fire. Think of is like this. If you lie to a child, nothing can happen. If you lie to your spouse, they can get angry. If you lie to your boss, you can be fired. Lying to the Government is called treason and you can go to jail. You can be telling the same lie to each person. So it is not the size of the lie that gets you into trouble, it is the person you lie to that determines the punishment. When a person lies, God sees it as an infinite offense since He is infinite, without beginning or end.

God must send law breakers to Hell. But unlike the tag line in the “Drag me to Hell movie, there will be no dragging. The law breakers will be cast into Hell. This casting will be like you tossing a wadded piece of paper into a waste basket. And it will not be a demon that does the casting into Hell but God Himself.

But you protest “God is Love”. That is true, God IS Love. He is 100% Love, but He is also 100% just, 100% pure, and 100% righteous. The Bible does not ever say God is love, love, love or kind, kind, kind. But the Bible says He is Holy, Holy, Holy and it is His Holiness, His perfection that is the reason you are in big trouble.

So, how do you balance God's 100% Love and 100% justice? 2000 years ago the Son of God came to Earth in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus is fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life; He willingly went to the cross. He willingly had sin placed upon Him. God's fierce wrath toward sin crushed Jesus on the cross.

Jesus died and was buried. Three days later he rose from the grave and was seen alive by over 500 people. He ascended into Heaven and will one day return to earth. You broke God's laws but Jesus paid your fine, your debt to God, for you in His own life's blood.

Please humble yourself before God. This means you repent of your multitude of sins. Forsake your sins, turn from your sins and yourself and turn toward God. Then trust in the person of Christ and receive His righteousness in exchange for your sin. If you repent, then you have been born again.

It will be the hardest thing you ever do in this life; to humble yourself before God. If you think you are a good person, then God will not save you. God resists the proud but give grace to the humble. This is why people, who think they are “good”, will go to Hell when they die. They have not humbled themselves to the point to realize they are not good at all but wicked and sinful in His sight. They compare themselves to each other and not to God who is the standard.

We are Christ’s ambassadors, as if God was pleading through us. We implore you on the behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. God made Christ, who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might have the righteousness of God, in Christ.”

Celebrity Millions Guessing Game

A creative way to hand out the new Celebrity Million Dollar Bills. Maxx sent this photo in to Living Waters and on the center of the board it reads, "CAN YOU NAME THESE CELEBRITIES? Free million-dollar bills...Give it a try then take one home!".
Look what Maxx writes:
"Trisha or to anyone else receiving this email on the Living Waters team... Just wanted to pass on to you a photo of a way we're using the celebrity million dollar bills, the photo is attached. We've had great response to it here in Monterey. It's of course amazing to see how many celebrities people can name compared to how many of the 10 Commandments they know! But the board is a great way to catch people's attention and as an icebreaker. Every time I hand them their chosen bill and then ask them the million dollar question, the encounter has led to presenting them a full Gospel message."

Have you handed out the new Celebrity Million Dollar Bills yet? If so, what's been the response from people? Do you have any creative tips or one-liners for these tracts?

Don't leave home without them...

If your dog is as lazy as mine, its good to take them on a walk. Emilio and I walk "Baby" our dog almost every day. Baby draws a lot of attention. People come up and say, "How cute...what type of dog is that?" Then I usually say something like, "She's a mix of some sort...we got her when we were living in CA." Then I will hand them a million dollar bill tract and say something to the effect of, "Thanks a million for the complement on my dog!"

Dog's are great conversation starters. If I'm out and about and see someone walking their dog (I love dogs), I'll go up to them and say, "You're dog is so cute...what kind is it?" They're delighted that I paid them a complement on their pet and are happy to respond. Then, I'll say, "Since I like your dog so much here's a million bucks for you to enjoy!" I smile and so do they. Then I add, "It's a gospel tract make sure you read the message on the back." And if I they have time, and aren't in a rush to leave, I'll share the Gospel with them one to one.

The next time you take your dog on a walk bring tracts with you. Did you know that Ray Comfort said that if you find him without a tract in public he will give you 1000 dollars? That's quite a price to pay to be caught without a tract! Then one day Ray was swimming with his grand children and one said, "I gotcha grandpa! You're swimming with out a tract...Ha!" And immediately he reached into the pocket of his swimming trunks and pulled out a wet tract that was completely in tact--he had laminated it!

It's obvious how valuable carrying tracts are to Ray. He won't leave home without them and if he does, the consequence is 1000 dollars. The next time you leave the house to go to the post office, walk the dog, take the kids to the park, etc. don't leave home without a good gospel tract. You just never know when you will need one. You can find good gospel tracts at Living Waters.
