[Jesus Christ] suffered for our salvation, descended into hell, rose again the third day from the dead;

He ascended into heaven, He sits at the right hand of the Father, God Almighty;

From there He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
At whose coming all men shall rise again with their bodies;
And shall give account of their own works.

And they that have done good shall go into life everlasting.
And they that have done evil into everlasting fire.

(excerpt from the Athanasian creed.)

Trish, do you think the rapture will occur in your lifetime?

Bathtub, you made a comment and it was rejected. So sorry that was an accident. Please feel free to respost. I think it was something about one of Ray's books.

I just wanted to share what my church's statement of faith (a summary of the Bible's main doctrines)says on the matter. There is no mention of the geo-political situation that will exist at the time of Christ's return, nor is anything brought forth from which any sort of time-table can be constructed.

"Finally, we believe that, according to the Word of God, when the time appointed by the Lord (which is unknown to all creatures) is come and the number of the elect complete, that our Lord Jesus Christ will come from heaven, corporally and visibly, as He ascended ... to declare Himself judge of the living and the dead..."

[all men, women and children that have been from the beginning of the world till the end shall be summoned to appear before this great Judge]

"As for those who shall then be living, they shall not die as the others, but be changed in the twinkling of an eye...and become incoruptible. Then the books (that is to say, the consciences)shall be opened, and the dead judged according to what they have done in this world, whether it be good or evil. All men shall give account of every idle word they have spoken, which the world counts amusement and jest; and then the secrets and hypocrisy of men shall be disclosed and laid open before all."

Just my opinion, but I think that it is this aspect of eschatology that we ought to bring up when we preach the law, prior to preaching the Good News of the Gospel. Our pet time-tables, sequence of events, speculating about the i.d. of "the beast and false prophet" are only so many rabbit trails that will divert us from the simplicity of bringing the law and gospel to the lost.

The article from which I exracted the above quotations ends with these words:

"...we expect that great day with a most ardent desire, to the end that we may fully enjoy the promises of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. AMEN.

Amen, come, Lord Jesus. (Rev 22:20)"
