I've never heard that dog analogy before; it's really good. Thanks for sharing this Trish!

Azou said...

Please...PLEASE...stop using analogies. Not a single one of you can make a decent analogy.

Like just about EVERY failed analogy made in regards to this, it comes down to evidence. The dog is injured. You can OBSERVE that the dog is walking with a limp, breathing improperly or has visible wounds.

This does not apply to your...dogma? Sorry, I had to.

As always, there's no evidence of souls, said souls going anywhere upon death and, of course, an omnipotent entity in charge of such.

You have not shown evidence that the natural universe is a creation and no, you also have no proven the legitimacy of the Bible without begging the question or resorting to circular logic.

Well, I'm done ranting at the wall. Proceed to spout Bible verses about foolishness like that makes a difference. Or just make with the fear tactics.

Azau, I didn't mean to hit a sore spot with you (or anyone for that matter). I was stating my opinion. But since you "ranted" please, allow me the same: You talk about evidence; just open you eyes to the world that we live in. It is a world of order, even you can't deny this fact. The big-bang theory cannot explain making order out of chaos: ever dropped an egg on the floor -- oops, sorry for the analogy but sometimes they help. Respectfully - Jenny :)

Azou said...

I was not ranting at anyone specifically.

As for Order vs. Chaos, you can easily make an argument for either based on simple observations without doing any research on the subject.

Personally, I find it to be a false dichotomy to say it's one or the other. There are elements of both order and chaos around us.

I don't know what started the universe, as I haven't looked into yet. And no, I'm not going to latch on to any explanation just for the sake of having an answer. Sometimes you just have to make peace with the unknown.

@ Azou.

What reasonable evidence would convince you that the God of the Bible is real?

Jenny said...

Azou, re: "Personally, I find it to be a false dichotomy to say it's one or the other."

Would you be able to define the word "truth"? It is reasonable to believe that there can only be one truth. If God is real and therefore, He did create us and everything we see, then, reasonably, He is Truth. We cannot neglect so great a salvation if it is indeed true. Don't you want to know the truth?
Respectfully,
-Jenny

Well, I think it's reasonable to expect a caring, omnipotent deity to simply come down here for a public appearance every so often. He wants us all to avoid hell, yes? Revealing the existence of God may not reach a 100% conversion, but it would be pretty close.

That seems fair. My own Dad is far from all-powerful, but even he can make a trip for family. Nothing to risk here and everything to game. Win-win for humanity and deity alike.

In the event that I grossly overestimated your God's ability to do everything, I guess I'd like to see some more evidence that verifies the Bible. Especially from wholly different cultures that have less reason to lie. Artifacts, additional texts and so forth would do much to alleviate my extreme skepticism. It's hard to consider something when the evidence to relegated to one book. Imagine if Anne Frank's Diary wasn't just our only evidence of the Holocaust, but World War II as a whole!

Azou said...

Jenny, you state that God is truth. How do you know this? The Bible? Well, how do you know that is not a lie?

The truth is simply that which is not false. I do wish to know what is true about the state of existence, and I'm afraid your God does not seem to be one of those. But, please, by all means share with me any argument you feel is compelling.

Jenny said...

Azou, re: "I don't know what started the universe, as I haven't looked into yet."

This IS the problem. You have a very strong opinion for someone who hasn't looked in to what it true and what is false.
You said, "I do wish to know what is true about the state of existence, and I'm afraid your God does not seem to be one of those.
I don't know how old you are but we are all on this planet for a very short time. Eternity is waiting. What are you waiting for. Do your own research.
Let me ask you a question: Have you been a good person?

Heath The Blogless said...

Just to correct you on your definition of truth.
While it is true that truth is that which is not false. you would then need to give an explanation of what false is.
A better definition would be:
"Truth is that which conforms to reality."

Nohm said...

"Truth is that which conforms to reality."

I think that's a perfectly acceptable definition.

Thank you, Trish.
I Thought E.Z.'s story about the dog was a very good picture of the Christians' heartfelt motivation for sharing their faith.

We have received forgiveness of our sins and new life from Jesus who loved us so much, despite our being anything but loveable. Having been born again, we want to bring others to Christ.

Now, let me just "spout" something here:

"That which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete."

I found an excellent quote on truth: "Truth is universal and absolute; unchanging and knowable."

No, Jenny, I don't think that I'm quite there as a "good person." Now remember: I don't believe your God exists. So I hope this isn't an attempt to do the Good Person Test. I don't consider the 10 Commandments to be satisfactory assessment of one's goodness.

And no, there is no solid definition of "good", which is why we built communities, towns and nations based on collective definitions of such. The fact that "good" varies from person-to-person is NOT a good reason to just accept the 10 Commandments.

Life is indeed short, and I have to do a knowledge triage of sorts. I have my priorities as to what I wish to learn before my time is up. The origins of everything is interesting and I shall research it some day.

Jenny said...

Well Azau, it seems that you are well informed. I would be remiss if I didn't even attempt to share the gospel with you; but you already know it. What are you waiting for? You're not guaranteed another day Azau.
Respectfully,
-Jenny

Who said?
Being dyslexic for many years, I once believed in Dog.

Relax people, there is no such thing as heaven n' hell,
be well n' good to one another, that's all it takes.

Peace.

Azou said...

Waiting for what, exactly?

Nohm said...

Jenny,

Probably for the same reason why you're not following the pillars of Islam, even though you're not guaranteed another day.

In short, I'm thinking that Azou is not convinced that the Gospel matches well with reality.

Jenny said...

@ Azou,
re: Waiting for what, exactly?

1. To "look into what started the universe."
2. Once "1" is completed, make peace with your Maker.

How to make peace with your Maker:
This is all you need do: Repent of your sins and turn from them. Accept the price (His death on the cross) that Jesus paid for your sins. Put your faith and trust in Him. Get a bible - read it daily - and do what it says.
Azou, your pride may be in the way of you spending eternity in heaven with the One who gave his life for you.
Please, look into it starting right now. You're not guaranteed another day.
Respectfully,
Jenny

Azou said...

You are making the assertion that

A) I will find a maker

B) That I will desire or need to make peace with this maker.

Jenny said...

Azau,
It is my hope that you will sincerely look for truth. And since it isn't up to me to convince you of anything, I simply share the gospel (good news) with you in hopes that you will find repentance, faith in Jesus and eternal life.
Respectfully,
Jenny

Azou said...

And I sincerely hope you learn to spell my name right.

Jenny said...

:) oops, typo, my apologies for spelling your name incorrectly Azou.
