A brother arrested

Last Thursday, March 18, 2010, I received an email from my friends at CHANGE Collegian Network (CCN) that a dear brother in Christ, Shawn Holes, was arrested while preaching the gospel in Glasgow Scotland (for explaining to a group of homosexuals, in love, that their lifestyle was sinful). Shawn spent the night in jail, and went before a judge the very next day.

Due to Scottish law, Shawn was charged with one count of homophobia, and one count of disturbing the peace and was given 3 choices by the judge: 1). Plead guilty and pay a fine, 2). Plead guilty, and go to jail, or 3). Plead innocent, and await further trial. Given the laws and his extremely slim chance of a legal victory, Shawn pled guilty and will need to pay a fine of about $1,600. The good news is that the Christian men he was with plus ten or so Christians from the area that he had never met pitched in and paid the fine!

Many dear friends of mine have witnessed with this brother side-by-side on the streets and testify of his love for the Lord. God bless him for his faithfulness to the Gospel. Let's keep preaching while we still have our freedom.

"I'm Basically a Good Person"

How do you deal with someone who says, "I'm Basically a Good Person"? Here's one approach.

Try this calculation with them. If you sinned only ten times a day from your tenth birthday to your sixtieth--and keep in mind we're not just talking about rape, pillage, and murder, but the full range of human moral failing, including heart attitudes and motives--only, ten sins a day, what would your rap sheet look like? You would have amassed 182,500 infractions of the law. What judge in his right mind would turn you loose with a record like that?

Whenever you're tempted to trust in your own ability, take a good look at the standard, God's Law, then look at your own score card. To use Paul's words, the law has each of us "shut up under sin" (Gal. 3:22), it's closed our mouths, and we all have become accountable to God (Romans 3:19). Saved by our own goodness? The Law gives us no hope.

A Good Reminder Why I Use Tracts

I handed a man a million dollar gospel tract the other day. We were both heading out of the store around the same time.

I passed him and said, "This is for you."

About 20 seconds later, I heard him call me from behind, "Miss...are you saying that I need to be a Christian to go to heaven??"

"I sure am, sir." I responded with a smile. I wasn't sure if he was happy or mad -sometimes you just don't know how people will respond.

"I'm glad you're doing this. I'm born again and I'm already going to Heaven." He said.

He continued, as he motioned to the tract, "People aren't doing this much anymore. Many years ago, a little old lady passed out these tracts called 'chick tracts' and I got saved through reading one."
